Yes, I realize I’ve posted about her before, but every time I see a pic of her in that famous bikini, I just have to post about it again. Simply because Brooklyn Decker is beyond ridiculous hot. That is all.

The legend gets to celebrate his 80th birthday basking in the glow of his 46th and 47th Academy Award nominations. Bravo, Maestro!

One of my longtime best friends, Chris Spurgin, is in a friggin’ awesome Star Trek tribute band called FIVE YEAR MISSION. These guys not only rock the hits they write themselves (each one an original song dedicated to one of the classic Star Trek original series episodes), but they’re amazing musicians, great guys, and making waves in the world of geekdom!
Now, they’ve got a shot at playing in front of one of the biggest audiences ever: the upcoming Super Bowl in Indianapolis! And you can help them get there!
All you have to do is go to this link, log into Facebook, and place your vote for their band. Just be sure that you make sure your vote counts: wait for the image next to their band pic to read “Voted”

You can do this daily and I would greatly appreciate if you did! And don’t forget to check out their website:

Easily the BEST Power Girl cosplay I have ever seen: and I’ve been to quite a few conventions, folks. This girl not only fits the specs for the character in terms of face and body, but her costume is superbly done: it’s extremely accurate, it fits incredibly well, and the detailing is magnificent. I have to get in touch with her to get tips for Jennifer’s costume for next year.
Simply blown away by this pic. Seriously great cosplay here.
I know you probably don’t mean anything hurtful by what you said up there, in the text I’ve bolded, but this is yet another example of the pervasiveness of body policing in our culture. To put it briefly, who cares if a cosplayer doesn’t exactly “fit the specs” of a character?
(And before I go any further, I’d like to note that yes, I do agree with you, this is some seriously great cosplay of Power Girl. I’d love to see what she did with the boots.)
There is so much whining from fan-boys — generally in response to fan-girls’ complaints of unrealistic portrayal of female bodies — that comics have unrealistic standards for everyone. Yet I don’t see anyone making comments about how men don’t “fit the specs” of whatever character they cosplay as.
In fact, there were pictures of a man cosplaying as Wonder Woman and obviously making no effort to “fit the specs”. This was seen as a funny joke and no one made comments deriding him. Yet the Earth-11 Justice League cosplayers, who clearly put in a lot of time and effort to create their costumes, get stupid comments that “too bad they’re all butterfaces”. It’s very sad.
Again, I’m sure you didn’t mean anything hurtful by what you said, I’m just… both intrigued and baffled by this double-standard in our culture. Mostly your post just makes me think, and I don’t mean any of this as an attack on you personally.

To the author of the “EVENT HORIZON” blog…I’d like to respond…
“who cares if a cosplayer doesn’t exactly ‘fit the specs’ of a character?”
Um…I do. But realize…there is NO double-standard at work here. I hold men to the same standard that I hold women when it comes to “fitting the bill” for cosplay.
The same way I don’t cosplay as Superman or Jason Voorhees because I’m not super buff or very tall…same way I only cosplay as certain characters (Joker, Spider-Man, Indiana Jones) because I “fit the specs” for those characters…I appreciate when others do the same.
Maybe I’m a cosplay snob/elitist or perhaps I’m just a prick at heart. Who knows. What I do know is that I’m one of those people who DOESN’T like to see an obese Darth Vader. Nor do I want to see a Michael Myers who is 5’2” tall.
And I definitely tend to not “appreciate” a Power Girl who is 350 pounds and stands at 5’4”.
“Yet I don’t see anyone making comments about how men don’t ‘fit the specs’ of whatever character they cosplay as.”
You should attend Comic-Con with me and my group of friends sometime. You’ll hear PLENTY of that sort of thing. We’d see a guy with MY build trying to pull off Christian Bale’s Batman and I’d shake my head in regret and say, “There’s a reason why I don’t try to pull off that look, pal. It simply doesn’t work for us.”
Believe me, if this same girl picture above walked into Comic-Con in a skin-tight Catwoman suit, I’d be one of the first to say, “She’s way too busty and curvaceous for what my idea of the traditional Catwoman looks like.”
Society overall may have a double-standard POV when it comes to these sort of things, but I don’t. In my mind, it works both ways, contrary to what you’re seemingly implying about me.
The first time I tried cosplaying as Jason Voorhees for Halloween, I knew IMMEDIATELY it wasn’t going to work because at the time I wasn’t big/buff enough (and in all honesty, I’m not really tall enough either. The only Jason I could get away with cosplaying as is the one from Friday 2, “Sackhead Jason”). I bitched myself out and cursed for about 15 minutes for being too lanky/skinny and for not being tall enough. In short (pun intended): I didn’t “fit the specs” for that costume, much to my chagrin.
You’re correct in assuming I didn’t mean ANYTHING hurtful by what I wrote. At the same time, now that I’ve explained myself, you might think my POV is indeed hurtful. I know for sure that it’s definitely not “PC”. Whatever the case, you’re going to think what you think just as I think what I think.
Just realize that there is NO double-standard at work in my thinking. I dog guys (including myself) who don’t “fit the specs” just as much as I do girls. It’s just the way I view cosplay: pic a character that you like that works for who YOU are in terms of height, build, body type, etc. If it doesn’t fit you…don’t do it, because you’ll probably just end up looking REALLY bad in most cases.
Maybe next time I’ll just play it safe and for photos like these I’ll post a caption like:
BOOBS!!
Though I’m sure that will incur a whole other type of diatribe.
Feel free to blog away about how inappropriate my thinking is.
